forwarded to me by my aunt. belated happy mother’s and father’s day!
A friend of mine went to Taipei recently and as I was reading his Facebook posts, I wanted to recommend some dishes I had there. I got too excited to look for my notes and pictures so I thought I can just write a about it here. This is one of them.

Taiwanese people seem to share the same passion for eating sweets like the Filipinos. One of their famous desserts is the shaved ice which is quite popular in Taiwan. The treat usually has ice, milk with one or more toppings (variety of fruits, red bean, taro, jellies etc). It is just like the halo halo from the Philippines that is inverted and with less toppings.

In the second corner of yong kang street (永康街) from xinyi district, there’s a small dessert place crowded with tourists (well mostly japanese which explains why their menu had katakana in it). As you would have guessed, fame made the food a bit pricey (100-200 NT average order). If you are with a group, it is best to share to prevent brain freeze since the serving is quite big.

You have to line up if you happen to arrive at the same time with a tour group since I guess this street is one of their stops. The guy in blue (server) could tell nationalities as he would greet the guests in different languages. sugoi

They had shared long tables where the guests eat the desserts sitting or standing. Here is a photo of me and my friend Saya enjoying the dessert.

“Mango Avalanche” (Mango Ice with mango sorbet) seems to be the favorite. The mango is sweet enough for a filipino. The sorbet on top was a not too sweet nor too sour, and not the creamy one. Great combination with the ice and milk.

The Strawberry, Kiwi and Mango variant

Red Bean Ice

Mango ice with pudding and the red bean one :)

很好吃!!

And oh, during our first trip to yong kang street, we weren’t so lucky to try yong kang 15 since it was too crowded so we had to try another dessert place just a few steps away. I didn’t get the name of the place. This is another option for those who prefer a more indoor restaurant type with aircon. The servings of the desserts are bigger so I guess it is cheaper or ‘sulit’ as we filipinos would say it. They also have other food other than desserts in their menu like sandwiches.

Stacy and Ashlie

We had the kiwi, mango, strawberry ice which wasn’t bad as well. BIG SERVING! sorbet was so good.

The place is kinda famous for its waffles too afaik.

In case you are wondering how we pushed all these sweets in our stomach, we didn’t just went there once. We love the place so much we had to go there four times during our stay in Taipei even as it is not really near from our place.
